Nikolai Kotlarczyk

Nikolai Kotlarczyk is an Australian designer based in Copenhagen, Denmark since 2013. Graduating from the Queensland College of Arts, his experience in Australia was strongly influenced by his time with renowned design and manufacturing house Tait.
Nikolai’s studio focuses on design pieces full of narrative. A strong connection with geography, history, materiality and rituals can be seen within his pieces. Working within a self-expressed decorative minimalist style, his work aims to simplify the act of story telling through an honest pallet of materials, and bold forms.

His work includes self initiated edition pieces and design pieces for manufactures, and has been shown in a number of international exhibitions including Milan, Paris, Stockholm, Copenhagen and Melbourne.

What is craftsmanship for you today?
Craftsmanship is knowledge. It is a way of passing down skills and techniques, but also stories. It is our connection to the past.
By creating a contemporary take on these crafts, we can keep these stories and traditions alive for future generations.

Your motto?
Injecting design with soul and passion is the only way to create lasting objects.
