Alissa + Nienke

Alissa + Nienke is a material research and design studio with a unique interpretation of surface design.
The studio’s aim is to enrich the environments we spend most of our time in, and use materials as the bridge between your body and the space surrounding you.
Putting the human experience at the centre of their work, they create materials, objects and installations that trigger your senses and stimulate interaction.
Influenced by their concept-led education at Design Academy Eindhoven and the practical experience of working with both craftsmen and new technologies, their work is characterized by tactility, simplicity and the use of natural forces like wind or light.
The studio was founded by Alissa van Asseldonk and Nienke Bongers (Eindhoven, NL) in 2013, and works on commissioned and self-initiated projects in the field of interior design and architecture.
They worked with and for Fendi, Christian Dior, the Government of The Netherlands, Mojo, TU Eindhoven, Dutch Invertuals, Spazio Rossana Orlandi, and many more.

What is craftsmanship for you today?
Craftsmanship is for us really about mastering a technique, whether it’s ancient knowledge or an upcoming innovation.
We love to collaborate with craftsmen as it’s an interesting and energetic dialogue; you really combine each others knowledge and together you explore the boundaries of the machines and tools, to come to new possibilities and applications

Your motto?
Always try to trigger and surprise yourself, to then bring that experience to others.
